About SACC

about sacc

SACC is a non-profit organization, which represents Structured Athletics for Challenged Children of Putnam County. It is an athletic program developed for children and adults with physical and/or mental disabilities to enjoy the many benefits of participating in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. The value of this program is found on the socialization and therapeutic benefits of participating in sports and the strengthening of the participant’s self-esteem.

eligibility

Any mentally and/or physically challenged child ages of 6 and up. We accept anyone who can’t participate in regular Recreational League Programs. We required that a responsible adult be with each child at the playing field of each event and for the entire game.

Buddies are very important to the success of our league. Buddies are volunteers assigned to a challenged player to assist that player in their sport. These volunteers come from churches, area school organizations, siblings, and the community at large. The Buddies are supportive, positive, and give encouragement to the players at all times. A Buddy provides the minimal amount of assistance required to enable the challenged player to participate in the game to their fullest capacity and enjoyment.

We have found that the Buddy system has proven to be very successful for the players and the Buddies themselves. The rewards to each participant have been overwhelming.
